It was not a voice transmission, not at first, but a packet of directives and embedded biometric signatures that traced their way down every available wire, waking up relays that had lain dormant since the ship's last legitimate commission. In the stutter of decompression, the image of General Kallan materialized, flickering at the periphery of the main display.
