The first warning was a subtlety: a change in the pitch of the environmental fans, the way the static in the comm array flared at regular intervals, as if the universe itself had developed a nervous tic. The second warning was less polite—three contact markers popping into existence on the nav display, each tagged with Krell intercept codes and a velocity vector that would intersect their own within ninety seconds.
