The coliseum’s air had a taste now—blood, sweat, dust, and whatever passed for pheromones in a crowd that lived for this shit. The noise, if anything, had gotten bigger: not just yelling, but drumming, stamping, a current of desperate energy surging through every row. Eli watched Lira lap the pit, weapon held high, skin so raw with exertion it looked flayed.
