Tisha waited in the far westward shadow of the ruined Valentin estate, her hair pinned high and camouflaged beneath a deep sapphire traveler’s hood. A potent olfactory blend permeated the air, characterized by the damp scent of brickwork, the cloying sweetness of fruit that had grown excessively mature, and the mulchy essence of decaying leaf litter from autumns past that had been raked, burned, and then left to decompose.
