The medical bay at headquarters felt like the inside of a first-aid kit, all white laminate and overbright LEDs, everything arranged in squares and rectangles so perfect it bordered on threatening. The supply cabinets gleamed with fresh labels. A biometric monitor blinked from its mount on the far wall, data streaming in slow, unhurried pulses. Even the air smelled cleaner, as if someone had set the vents to “antiseptic.”
